Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP)

AEDP is a trauma-informed, attachment-based therapy that helps people heal by experiencing safety, emotional connection, and transformation in real time.

Rather than focusing only on symptoms or analysis, AEDP works with emotions, the nervous system, and the therapeutic relationship to create deep and lasting change.

This approach is especially helpful for individuals who feel overwhelmed, emotionally stuck, disconnected, or shaped by past relational or developmental trauma.

How AEDP Works

AEDP is grounded in neuroscience and attachment theory. It recognizes that many emotional struggles develop not because something is “wrong” with you, but because your nervous system learned to protect you in environments where safety, attunement, or support were missing.

In AEDP, healing happens through:

  • Creating a strong sense of emotional safety
  • Developing a secure, attuned therapeutic relationship
  • Gently accessing emotions rather than avoiding or overriding them
  • Supporting the nervous system as new experiences of safety and connection occur

As these experiences unfold, the brain and body begin to reorganize naturally.

What AEDP Can Help With

AEDP can be effective for a wide range of concerns, including:

  • Trauma and developmental or relational trauma
  • Anxiety and chronic emotional overwhelm
  • Shame, self-criticism, and low self-worth
  • Emotional numbness or disconnection
  • Attachment wounds and relationship difficulties
  • Long-standing patterns that haven’t shifted with traditional talk therapy

Many clients notice not only symptom relief, but also a deeper sense of clarity, confidence, and emotional resilience.

What Sessions Feel Like

AEDP is experiential and relational. Sessions often feel supportive, grounding, and emotionally meaningful.

You will not be pushed to relive traumatic memories before you are ready. Instead, we move at a pace that respects your nervous system and capacity.

In sessions, you may:

  • Learn to notice and tolerate emotions more safely
  • Experience moments of relief, insight, or emotional release
  • Develop greater self-compassion and inner steadiness
  • Feel more connected—to yourself and to others

Many clients describe AEDP as both gentle and powerful.

AEDP Within My Therapy Practice

I integrate AEDP principles with other trauma-informed, mind–body approaches such as EMDR, Brainspotting, and somatic therapy.

This allows therapy to be flexible and responsive rather than rigid. We use what best supports your healing in the moment.

AEDP is particularly helpful when you need:

  • A strong sense of safety before doing deeper trauma work
  • Support with emotional processing rather than problem-solving alone
  • Help repairing the impact of past relational wounds

Is AEDP Right for You?

AEDP may be a good fit if you are ready to move beyond coping and begin experiencing meaningful emotional change—without being overwhelmed or retraumatized.

If you’re curious about whether AEDP is appropriate for your needs, we can explore this together during a consultation.
